Yoh-Chie Lu
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Lu founded our Company in 1990 and was appointed as a Director of our Company in October 1998.

Mr. Lu has 25 years of experience in the medical industry and has served as our Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since our inception. As our Chairman, Mr. Lu's experience, leadership and track record has proved to be critical to our Company. As our Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lu has been responsible for our business strategy and direction, the implementation of our corporate plans and policies, and the general management of our business.

Prior to founding our Company, Mr. Lu established Asia-based operations for Gould Medical, Inc., a surgery and critical care catheter and instrumentation company. He held various senior positions with Gould Medical, advancing to the position of President of the Gould/Spectramed Asia-Pacific Division. In 1986, Mr. Lu participated in a management-led leveraged buyout of the Division from Gould. He continued as President of the Asia-Pacific Division through 1988 when it was sold to British Oxygen Corporation, and he served as President-Asia Pacific with British Oxygen until 1990. In 1990, Mr. Lu simultaneously founded Sun Instruments-Japan, Sunscope International in California and Biosensors International in Singapore, the predecessor companies to Biosensors International Group.

Mr. Lu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters of Business Administration from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in Arizona.

 

Douglas R. Hillier
Director (Independent)

Mr. Hillier was appointed as a Director of our Company in May 2003. Before retiring in 2004, Mr. Hillier held senior management positions with World Heart, Inc., PPG Biomedical, Gould/Spectramed and Beckman Instruments, Inc., and has over 40 years’ experience in the medical products field. Mr. Hillier has held Board positions for half a dozen companies ranging from start-ups to larger, established firms. Mr. Hillier also served as an advisor to our Company form 2001 to 2003.

Mr. Hillier holds Bachelor and Master of Sciences degrees from the University of Michigan and completed the Executive Management Program at UCLA.

 

Dr Peter Huggler
Director (Independent)

Dr. Huggler joined our Board of Directors in August 2006. He is currently the Chairman of Askair Technologies AG, Zurich, a company active in the field of air purification and Far East Investment Ltd., Zug, a private investment company. He has many years of business experience in Europe, the United States and Asia including five years with a mining and metal smelting company in India and two years in the U.S. and Canada.

Dr. Huggler established and developed several international companies: Velcro Industries, the inventor of the adhesive fastener, in the U.S. and Japan; NIFCO, the largest manufacturer of industrial plastics products centered on industrial fasterners in Japan; and a number of investment companies: International BM Biomedicine Holding in Basle, Samurai Portfolio, a Swiss investment fund investing in Japan, Formosa Growth Fund, one of the first international investment funds in Taiwan. From 1978 to 1991, he was President of Interallianz Bank AG, Zurich, a private bank he established jointly with Swiss and Japanese corporations including Toyota, Toshiba, Kajima and YKK.

Dr Huggler studied at the Ecole de Droit in Paris and Zurich University where he took a doctorate in law, followed by post-graduate studies at the Centre d'Etudes Industrielles in Geneva.

 

Kee Lock Chua
Executive Director

Mr. Chua has served as a Director of our Company since January 2005. On 1st September 2006, Mr. Chua was appointed the President of Biosensors International Group, Ltd, where he will have direct responsibility for the Company’s operations and finance functions, including sales and marketing, manufacturing, quality assurance, and financial management.

Prior to joining Biosensors, Mr. Chua served as Managing Director of Walden International Singapore Pte Ltd from 2003 to 2006, where he was responsible for the US-headquartered venture capital firm’s investment activities in the South Asia market. He also served in various senior executive roles at several Singapore-listed companies, including Deputy President of NatSteel Ltd., an industrial products company active in Asia Pacific, President and Chief Executive Officer of Intraco Ltd,, a trading and distribution company, and President & Co-Founder of MediaRing.com, a company providing voice-over-internet services.

Mr. Chua received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering from Stanford University.

 

Horn Kee Leong
Director (Independent)

Mr. Leong joined our Board of Directors in August 2005. Mr. Leong is currently the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Far East Organization. He has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, having served in the Singapore government's Administrative Service in the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Trade & Industry; and he has worked in various industries such as corporate finance, venture capital, merchant banking, real estate, hotels and food & beverage. Mr. Leong was a Member of Parliament for 22 years from 1984 to 2006.

Mr. Leong holds a Production Engineering (Honours) degree from Loughborough University of Technology, UK; an Economics (Honours) degree from the University of London, UK; and a Masters of Business Administration from INSEAD, France.

 

Kristen Onken
Director (Independent)

Ms. Onken joined our Board of Directors on 1st September 2006. She has over 35 years of corporate finance experience, and most recently served as the CFO of Logitech from February 1999 to May 2006 where she was the Executive Sponsors of both the SOX 404 compliance as well as the Oracle 11i implementation. Prior to joining Logitech, Ms. Onken served as Vice President Finance at Fujitsu PC Corporation of America from 1996 to 1999, and also held various finance leadership roles at Sun Microsystems from 1991 to 1996 including Director Finance for its European operations based in London. From 1988 to 1991 she held several financial positions at AST Research and its spin off, AMKLY, during which time she was also the Controller of AST Research’s Hong Kong operations, based in Hong Kong.

Ms. Onken received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University and holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
